Cub Scouts Pack 220
Merkel, Texas
Wolf Den

Upcoming Events:

We have a lot of activities that we do each year as a Pack - Here's a few of them:

  • Pack 220's Cub Scouts decorate large cardboard boxes in the Christmas fashion which are taken around to the local stores for canned and non-perishable food donations. Our Boy Scouts then deliver them to needy families!
  • Pack 220 Cub Scouts have the honor of carrying the US flag, Texas State flag, and the Pack 220 flag in the Merkel Christmas Parade, which takes place usually in the first week of December!
  • Pinewood Derby cars should arrive mid to late December so we can begin work on our racers!
  • Mid January is the Cub Scout Lock-In! We gather up our Scouts for Pizza and fun. Get ready to earn your belt-loops!
  • February is the month for Scout Sunday! Be sure to wear your uniform to worship! Most Scout Den Leaders will do some form of Scout recognition at the start of their worship services.
  • February is also time for the Pinewood Derby Races!
  • Blue and Gold Banquet!
  • As the weather warms up it will be time for campouts at Lake Sweetwater and other places nearby!

Why do boys participate in Cub Scouting? Why do parents volunteer their time and efforts?

Cub Scouting is a year-round family oriented part of BSA designed for boys first thru fifth grades (or ages 7-10).
Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the 10 purposes of Cub Scouting:

  • Character Development
  • Spiritual Growth
  • Good Citizenship
  • Sportsmanship and Fitness
  • Family Understanding
  • Respectful Relationships
  • Personal Achievement
  • Friendly Service
  • Fun and Adventure
  • Perparation for Boy Scouts

Cub Scouting has at its heart 12 Core Values. They are:

  • Citizenship: Contributing service and showing responsibility to local, state, and national communities.
  • Compassion: Being kind and considerate, and showing concern for the well-being of others.
  • Cooperation: Being helpful and working together with others toward a common goal.
  • Courage: Being brave and doing what it right regardless of our fears, the difficulties, or the consequences.
  • Faith: Having inner strength and confidence based on our trust in God.
  • Health and Fitness: Being personally committed to keeping our minds and bodies clean and fit.
  • Honesty: Telling the truth and being worthy of trust.
  • Perseverance: Sticking with something and not giving up, even if it is difficult.
  • Positive Attitude: Being cheerful and setting our minds to look for and find the best in all situations.
  • Resourcefulness: Using human and other resources to their fullest.
  • Respect: Showing regard for the worth of something or someone.
  • Responsibility: Fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves.

As you can see, these are all worthwhile values and things that are often missing in the lives of many boys and young men today. Scouting offers a chance to build our boys into responsible citizens who will lead in the years to come.

Volunteer! Help Scouts by joining today!

  • The Cub Scout Motto is easy, but one of the most important tenets of Scouting.
    It is "Do Your Best".
  • The Cub Scout Salute. Give the salute and tell what it means.

The salute is the way we show respect to our flag and our country.
  • Child Protection Exercises

News and Notes:

Pinewood Derby 2009 Photos

During the first part of February, Scouts everywhere participate in Scout Sunday. This is a time when places of worship recognize those in their membership who participate in Scouting. Often Scouts participate in the worship service such as ushers, or reading scripture. Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms to morning worship and to sit together.

Scout leaders are also encouraged to wear their uniforms. This is a good time to have an article in the membership bulletin or on a bulletin board in the lobby telling about Scouts and Scouting. This is also an appropriate time to recognize those involved in Girl Scouts as well.
