Be sure to check out the SATELLITE photos of the camp! (Added May 2001)

As of May, 2001 I am beginning research on the materials about camp available at the Center for Restoration Studies at Abilene Christian University. I will make this historical information available on this site as I get it compiled.

As of June 7th, 2001 I have just received permission to publish the document The History of the Pecos River Encampment 1940-1996 to this web site! This has been following a long investigative trail to the author to obtain his permission. He is currently on assignment in Chihuahua City, Mexico. I am very excited about this development and will be working as quickly as possible to have it ready over this weekend.

Here it is folks!!! I have spent several late nights converting the scanned documents I received from ACU into a format suitable for the site. After a lot of huffing and puffing and my aching back in front of my computer at night, The History of the Pecos River Encampment 1940-1996 is online!!! Thanks to Glenn Willeford for his cooperation, and especially for my beautiful wife Teresa for her selfless help in transcribing this work and for her tireless encouragement! Also special thanks go out to Erma Jean Loveland and Chad Longley for carefully scanning each page of History and emailing it to me. They saved me a ton of work and a trip over to ACU that I haven't been able to schedule! Follow the link! It is well worth the time to read every bit!

July 3, 2001 - Welcome home from another great encampment, everybody! I have just added pictures from the 1996 encampment. These were in the company of the History of... document and were sent to me from the great staff at ACU. These are great quality pictures! Check them out!

July 24, 2001 - Just added the Camp:2001 pictures today! Take a look! Follow the link below! I also have several rolls of film to develop and I'll get them up here as soon as I can! Check back real soon!

August 6, 2001 - 1:07 AM - There's a special treat waiting for you at "The Mystery of the Other Bell". It's an interesting story with pics about... well, check it out for yourself! The link is below!

August 16, 2001 - Just finished moving the entire site to the new location and added some bells and whistles (stats, counters, and the "Countdown to Camp 2002" blurb. Hope you like it!

September 17, 2001 - Added some HYPER hyper-links to the The History of the Pecos River Encampment 1940-1996 document. This keeps you from having to jump to the footnotes page every time; just 'mouse-over' the footnote number and it will bring up that footnote in a tiny window off to the right. This should make reading the History document a cinch!

February 26, 2002 - Created this NEWS page; separated it from the main front page to clean up the clutter...

July 23, 2003 - Created the Blast from the Past page. This is a collection of pictures from the first encampments forward, donated graciously by Alecia Sconiers. Please go over and have a look at these! They are incredible. Sorry, there were so many, there was no way to include even half of them due to space limitations, and the time it takes to scan them all in, but they are wonderful! Thank you so much, Alecia!

August 4th, 2003 - It is with great sadness we report the tragic and untimely passing of our brother Bob Berard who was a speaker at the 2003 Pecos River Family Encampment. He was a wonderful preacher of God's Word who has been a missionary to Phnom Penh, Cambodia for a number of years. If you attended the camp this year, you will remember his booklet "Old Testament Survey Outlines with timeless lessons for today's world. Moses to Malachi report: Christ is coming!" that we studied from during class times with him preaching.
He has gone ahead to meet our Lord and Savior, but he will be greatly missed by those of us left behind.

May 13th, 2004 - Updated the schedule to reflect the addition of the 4:00-4:45 PM Small Discussion Groups, supper has been moved up to 5:30, singing extended from 7:00-7:45 to 7:50. All the rest of the schedule remains the same.

Hey, everyone! Got a picture you'd like to see on the site? Email it to me, or snail mail it!

September 28, 2004 - Added a couple of "look-alike" bells from Rotan and Paint Rock, Tx to the Other Bells page. Enjoy!

June 13, 2005 - Added the Parental Release Form to the Schedules, Rules and Guidelines page. Click HERE to get it.

June 16, 2005 - Of course, as it gets close to camp-time, I start thinking I need to clean up the web site a little. Converted the main page to FRAMES with a left-side menu bar, and edited changes on most pages to conform. Added CSS formatted text -this probably means little to nothing to you folks that don't program... sorry!

July 5, 2005 - Received permission from the Firm Foundation to post to this site their 1964 article entitled "Preaching All Day and Dinner on the Ground" which includes a good deal of the camp's rich history. Posted this two-page article as graphic images. - Also revamped the History page so that it provides links for both the Glenn Williford paper and the Firm Foundation article.

August 9, 2005 - Yearbook pages with photos from 2004 & 2005 added. Enjoy!

June 5, 2006 - Added Debbie (Ford) Montangon's Polaroid shots to the Scrapbook page. Added links to Iraan-related websites.

September 5, 2007 - Began transferring Joe Prosise's Reel-to-Reel tapes to computer format WMA audio files. Posted the first 8 of them on my website at www.joelowens.org.

June 27, 2008 - Missed camp for the first time in years! How bad is that? Understood they had a huge sandstorm this year during one night - messy. Added photos for 2008 that were donated by Joe Prosise.

May 1, 2009 - Migrated this website from Geocities (going defunct this year) over to Yahoo!Webhosting! Yay!

July 8, 2010 - Added first 8 of the sermon audio files from the 2010 Encampment to the site. Special Thanks goes out to Danny Dixon for providing these.

Love in Christ,
Joel Owens
