Where is the Pecos River Encampment located?

The Pecos River Encampment is Located in west Texas, near I-10, south of the Midland / Odessa area.

If you are approaching from Interstate 10, take Exit 349 North toward Iraan. The camp is approximately 2 miles north and will be on your right, located just off the highway it is separated from the roadway by trees and grazing area, however the buildings and vehicles will be visible through these trees as you approach. The turn into the camp is not 100% well-defined and angles slightly back to the SE.

Approaching from Iraan and all points north, you will travel south along Highway 349 passing the Iraan local airport on the left and the Iraan ISD schools on your right. Continue down the highway - Interestingly, your first sign that you are getting close will be the sight of west Texas hills that form 'camel humps'.

These hills are located directly across from the Pecos River Encampment and as you get close, you can start slowing down. There is a oil-production brine storage facility just north of the entrance to the encampment - coast on a little farther until you see the sign for the encampment.

If you have GPS, create a waypoint at: N 30° 46' 09.4" - W 101° 50' 17.2". This should bring you right into the middle of the encampment site.

You can locate 2F0 on your sectional chart for San Antonio.
More information is available from AirNav.

Of course, once you get to the airport, you then have to figure out how to get your camping gear from the plane down south to the camp.
I don't think Hertz is anywhere close. But, there are always curious locals. And I've always had this theory about just taxi'ing the plane down 349 to the Encampment - I think it'd work! But, I digress...

Canoeing the Pecos River to camp???

Best wishes... The Pecos has been dammed up so many places upstream that getting just about any watercraft up or down the river to the encampment would probably be a rough trip, and you would end up carrying your canoe about as much as you would ride in it. Depends a lot on how much rain the area has had.
