Production Notes:

These files are taken from reel-to-reel recordings made by Joe Prosise. Each 7" reel tape has 4 tracks, recorded at 1-7/8 IPS (inches per second), monophonic.

Quarter-inch tapes that are 30 to 40 years old are very brittle and can snap easily while being wound or threaded onto the reels, so great care is being taken to preserve the original media while this process is in work.

Post-processing of the audio files includes several steps:

  • Recording on the computer while the reel plays at 3-3/4 IPS; Double speed, sounds like Mickey Mouse talking.
  • Using the program to restore the file to its original play speed (20 minutes per side).
  • Separate the Left and Right tracks into individual program files (about 780 MB each track, raw Wav file).
  • Break each track into individual Sermons or Bible class Lessons ["Programs"].
  • Balance the level of each program.
  • Delete silent portions and limit "pregnant pauses" to 850 mSeconds.
  • Equalize the audio to reduce "blaring" effect of primitive sound system.
  • Raise the level of people in the audience who may comment or speak, prayers, etc.
  • Convert the format to 32KBPS Windows Media Audio files and Save.

My equipment is an Akai GX-3000 Reel-to-Reel recorder, Sonar Home Studio 4 XL, Cool Edit Pro, Adobe Audition 1.5 and Dell Dimension computing power.

As you can tell, this is a lengthy process and is very time consuming. The collection of reel-to-reel tapes numbers 20 and covers a span from 1969 thru about 1983. In addition, this collection also contains a number of cassette tapes, which may be also converted over time.

The voices on these tapes include such preaching giants as:

  • Johnny Ramsey,
  • Jimmy Jividen,
  • Jim Hance,
  • Ted Kell,
  • Abe Lincoln,
  • Ian Fair,
  • Jack Evans,
  • Rhuel Lemmons,
  • and several others.

I look forward to making these available, however this no way to make everything present on the Internet, so probably in the future there will be a place on this page to purchase computer file CD-R's which contain WMA files of the sermons and Bible class lessons.

I consider these tapes a great treasure trove of information and teaching, and I hope you enjoy hearing these voices from the past as much as I enjoy making them available to you.
Those of you who attended the Pecos River Encampment during this time period will no doubt consider listening in on these sermons once again a very heart-warming remembrance.

Please email me with your comments or suggestions, however no CD-R's are available for order at this time. Keep checking back!

Sincerely yours,
Joel Owens
